Sarracenia oreophila x alata "Black Throat" crosses two southeastern pitcher plants. S. oreophila, the green pitcher plant, is a rare species from the mountains of Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina, known for sturdy, upright pitchers with a wide mouth. S. alata "Black Throat" is a dark-throated form of the pale pitcher plant from the Gulf Coast. This cross brings together oreophila's upright form with alata's dark coloring.
S. oreophila tends to finish its pitcher season early and produces flat, curved, non-pitcher leaves in late summer, and this hybrid may show some of that habit. Color is strongest in full sun.
